If you’re planning to visit Munduk soon and you’re wondering what are the best things to do in Munduk Bali? This post is for you! Munduk is a still preserved area in the north of Bali, really less touristy than the rest of the island especially the south. We totally fell totally in love with this still wild and untouristy place, perched in the mountains in Bali. If you like nature, waterfalls, lakes and hiking then you will love Munduk!
This place was our favorite during our trip to Bali. We loved these huge waterfalls, lost in the jungle. But also the temples in the middle of the lakes, the monkeys, the kindness of the locals and the proximity to nature. By the way, if you’re going to Bali soon, don’t miss our best Bali itinerary for 10 days!
Why to visit Munduk in Bali?
Munduk is the ideal place for nature lovers. If you like being close to nature, lakes, mountains and waterfalls, don’t miss Munduk during your stay in Bali! We really loved Munduk, it’s our favorite in Bali. It is a region still quite preserved where you can see monkeys walking along the roads. But also still wild places like lakes and waterfalls. Of course, like everywhere in Bali, tourism is starting to develop so there is a lot of infrastructure and hotels that are starting to be built, but much less than in the south. If you like authenticity and nature, you will not be disappointed!
If you are on a romantic trip and are looking for a quiet and relaxing place in the middle of nature, opt for a few days in Munduk! Also find our complete guide to visit Bali.
How to get to Munduk?
If you want to reach Munduk from Ubud, you can take a taxi for less than 30€. In general it is around 400,000 HDI. The journey takes about 2 hours but with the traffic it is difficult to predict. If you leave in the middle of the day it can last double.
If you leave the airport or return there, easily count 4 hours or even more depending on the traffic. Plan wide in case there are traffic jams.
Where to stay in Munduk Bali?
Munduk Moding plantation
We fell in love with this hotel perched in a coffee plantation in Munduk. This is the famous hotel with the swimming pool overlooking the mountains. This hotel is amazing and perfectly located near places to visit. Less than 30 minutes from Mundul waterfall and Tambligan lake.
Their rooms are magnificent, refined and authentic. The decoration is very sober and close to nature. But it is quite spacious, with views of the mountains, the pools or the coffee plantation.
The hotel restaurant is amazing. The dishes are made with fruits and vegetables that grow in the hotel plantation. The breakfast which is included in the price of the room is very generous: fresh fruit, fresh juice (mango, watermelon…) pancakes…It is the ideal breakfast!
If you go to Munduk, we really recommend you to stay at this hotel you will not be disappointed!
Best things to do in Munduk
Munduk waterfall
There are many waterfalls in this area of Bali but this waterfall is absolutely stunning. The hike is easy, about 10 minutes and the price is 20.00 IDH per person. For us it is one of the prettiest with Sekumful waterfall. When you get to the bottom you will see a small bamboo bridge, then the waterfall. It is quite imposing, really grandiose! For the moment, it is not yet very touristy but we still advise you to come before 9 am.
It is one of the 5 most beautiful waterfalls to visit in Bali, that’s for sure!
Sekumpful waterfall
This waterfall is also one of the prettiest but it is further away and the hike is much longer. If you have time, go there it is superb! Be careful, however, apparently you may have to pay several times to get in, and take as few things of value as possible.
If you have time, I really recommend this hike which is unforgettable!
The 3 lakes of Munduk
Tambligan and Buyan lakes
We have visited these lakes and they are stunning. Tambligan Lake has a view of the temple, you will see boats that are used to go there for the Balinese. We did not linger on the tourist attractions to take pictures in the nests or swings but if you feel like it, do not hesitate to stop.
Lake Beratan Munduk
This lake too has a temple in the middle and is very pretty. But it is more popular. If you want to visit it, get up early, you can better enjoy it.
